Interesting article, Martin. I’m new to substack (and social media, actually) and you articulate many things here I have become (vaguely) aware of. Thanks. It’s thought-provoking.

Welcome to Substack and the socials, Thomas! May you find every part of them friendly and inspirational. From my experience of social media, mileage may vary, but there's still a lot to appreciate.

I wonder if that musicians’ fans even knew about that Discord meet up, given that their social media posts are probably only seen by a fraction of their follower count? Algorithms and all 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

You're right, we miss a vast amount of stuff that way. It's why I think posting about the same things regularly isn't a big deal, and why having chronological feeds are so good. Thank goodness some of the socials still let you do it, even if it's a fiddle to do each time.

Oh, and I still don't use TikTok, so I'm often late to the info party because of that. At least that's deliberate and on me!

"It's why I think posting about the same things regularly isn't a big deal" YES YES YES x 1,000,000. I tell folks to do this all the time, yet so many are reluctant because they think it's spammy, but like... 90% of your followers never see 'em!

It's why I'm biased towards old fashioned email newsletters haha
